Minnesota Becomes ‘Devil’s Sanctuary’ Thanks To ‘Catholic’ Lawmakers – Will Archbishop Hebda Finally Act?

Last week, Governor Tim Walz signed three bills into law making Minnesota a legal refuge for abortion and transgender mutilations. The bills were only able to be passed with the help of 13 ‘Catholic’ lawmakers (see table at bottom of page).

Bishop Strickland of Tyler, Texas responded to the news about Walz’s signing of the abortion bill by tweeting that Minnesota had become the ‘Devil’s Sanctuary’.

All thirteen ‘Catholic’ lawmakers reside within the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis which is under the responsibility of Archbishop Bernard Hebda.

Minnesota Bishops rightfully lobbied against these bills, but these 13 Catholic lawmakers ignored their pleas.

Canon 915 dictates that those who “obstinately persisting in manifesting grave sin” MUST be denied access to Holy Communion.  A pastor or bishop who allows public supporters of abortion/infanticide to receive Communion announces to his flock and the general public that this is not sinful.  Through his act of omission, the priest or bishop is also representing that he, himself, is untroubled by the prospect of living in the state of mortal sin.

Other bishops have recently enforced Cannon 915, including Bishop Thomas Paprocki in the case of Dick Durbin and Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone in the case of Nancy Pelosi. Archbishop Hebda should follow their lead for all Minnesota Catholic lawmakers who obstinately refuse to uphold Catholic teaching.

TAKE ACTION: Contact Archbishop Hebda at archbishop@archspm.org or 651.291.4511. RESPECTFULLY ask him to stop the scandal by enforcing Canon 915.
