Tucho Spills the Beans: Fiducia Supplicans was Issued to Prevent Derailment of the Synod

The Fiducia supplicans declaration (discussed, criticized and disapproved by a multitude of bishops and Episcopal Conferences) had a very specific motivation that we will see in October if it achieves its objective or not.

This week, the National Catholic Reporter reported statements by Cardinal Mario Grech, general secretary of the synod, where he confirmed at a conference in Ireland that he was not informed about the date of publication or the content of Fiducia Supplicans.

In statements to OSV News, the Maltese cardinal acknowledges that it was not necessary for him to have been notified or consulted about this statement from the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith. So much so, that Cardinal Grech defends that Fiducia supplicans “has nothing to do with » neither with the previous synodal assembly nor with the upcoming second session that will take place in October 2024 and with which the Synod of synodality will be finalized.

We just have to wait until October to see if this Vatican declaration, which has generated so much controversy in recent months, achieves the objective proposed by Cardinal Fernández.
