Bishop Lopes’ Excommunication of Fr. Vaughn Treco is Deceptive, Unethical and Immoral

The church St. Bede the Venerable in Minneapolis has been closed and Fr. Vaughn Treco excommunicated by Bishop Steven J. Lopes based upon deception. The bishop says it was because of the alleged “rejection of the magisterial authority of an Ecumenical Council and a series of popes.” May be he means it sincerely and is in ignorance.

BISHOP USES FALSE PREMISE AND INFERENCE

It is not being said that the bishop interprets the Council with an irrational premise and inference to create a rupture with Tradition. It is also not being said that without this irrationality the Council would be in harmony with the past exclusivist ecclesiology and an ecumenism of return but the bishop is not choosing this option. The bishop forces the irrational interpretation of Vatican Council II upon the parish, who reject it.He now has excommunicated the priest for not accepting it.

IRRATIONAL PHILOSOPHY FROM A BISHOP IS UNETHICAL

This is a secular issue. Irrational philosophy from a bishop is unethical. The deception is now public. It is immoral for a bishop and his Curia to use subterfuge and then force it upon the whole parish.
