The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has been fighting in court for over five years to have the Peter’s Pence lawsuit dismissed. This week, the U.S. District Court of Appeals may have finally put a stop to the USCCB’s efforts. The Court denied the USCCB’s en banc request. The only option remaining to have the case potentially dismissed would be for the USCCB to appeal the case to the U.S. Supreme Court. It is highly unlikely that the Supreme Court would choose to hear this case. It appears the case will now likely move into the discovery phase which will hopefully provides records proving the USCCB’s complicity in the Peter’s Pence financial scandal.
