Welcome back into Talking Catholic with David Gray. I’m reading lacrosse bishop William p Callahan’s decree against father James Altman, formerly pastor of Saint James the Less parish in La Crosse, Wisconsin and the first thought that came to mind was the term “buck breaking.” Buck breaking is what slave masters in the Caribbean and north America did to rebellious and non-compliant African slaves they would drag them out strip them down naked and tie them to a pole or a tree and commence to brutally beating and whipping them in forcing other slaves to watch every second of it forced to watch so that they too will know that no know the consequences of being non-compliant and that’s exactly what’s going on in this decree this decree.
