Michigan State Police have arrested six or seven Catholic priests on charges of sexual abuse.
WWJ Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick reports the priests were taken into custody today and yesterday without incident.
This comes are a clergy abuse investigative team has been reviewing hundreds of thousands of pages of documents seized from the dioceses last October. In addition, investigators have been following up on more than 400 tips that have been called into the Michigan Attorney General’s clergy abuse hotline since the beginning of the year.
In February, Attorney General Dana Nessel said the investigation may take as long as two years to wrap up because of how many files there are and how many victims there likely are.
Names, specific churches and other details about those arrested were not immediately released.
Nessel is expected to update the media and public at 11 a.m.
