Investigation Of Baton Rouge Bishop Turned-Over To Vatican

New Orleans Archbishop Checchio confirmed that the investigation into the Diocese of Baton Rouge’s handling of the case involving Catholic Priest Father Charbel Jamhoury has been completed and forwarded to the Dicastery for Bishops, sources told WAFB’s I-TEAM on Tuesday, Sept. 22.

The Diocese of Baton Rouge removed Jamhoury from ministry, revoked his safe environment credentials, and forbade him from further public ministry after allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior surfaced between the priest and an adult male.

Bishop Michael Duca, through the Diocese of Baton Rouge’s Vicar General, Fr. Jamin David, declined to do an interview twice regarding this investigation and the removal of Father Charbel Jamhoury. Jamhoury did not return our calls for a response. The Diocese of Baton Rouge’s full statement is at the bottom of this article.

On February 8, 2026, Bishop Michael Duca removed Father Charbel Jamhoury from St. Isidore the Farmer Catholic Church in Baker, four months after the complaint was initially filed with the Diocese.

The diocese has not publicly discussed the nature of the complaint.
