A Catholic priest accused of groping and kissing two young girls from his Washington D.C. parish has been convicted on sexual assault charges.
Urbano Vazquez showed no emotion when the jury foreman announced on Thursday that he was found guilty on three counts of second-degree child sexual assault and one count of misdemeanor sex abuse of a child, the Washington Post reported.
“He took vows to act in a Godlike manner, to act like Jesus. But he did not act in a Godlike manner and forever changed the lives of these girls,” federal prosecutor Sharon Marcus-Kurn said to jurors during her closing arguments earlier this week.
“He wore priest’s clothes, but underneath was a devil to them, sexually assaulting them.”
