The diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart (Baden-Württemberg, southern Germany) has published a short manual of “Prayers to Bless Loving Couples,” entitled “We Love Each Other – What a Blessing!” This is nothing less than a blasphemous collection, attributing to God what He has expressly condemned in Holy Scripture. It is a condemnation echoed by the Church.
The reader can already guess what it’s all about. The foreword, written by an ecclesiastical advisor, explains that “many couples who love each other and wish to build their lives together desire to receive God’s blessing. In the Catholic Church, this life decision finds its deepest liturgical form in the celebration of marriage between a man and a woman.”
The deepest? No. It is the only one. With such premises, the consequences will be disastrous. The following proves this: “At the same time, it is clear that, in addition to marriage between a man and a woman, there are other forms of committed cohabitation that are a reality experienced by many people in our society and that are partly recognized by law.”
That couples of all kinds exist today is one thing; that they are recognized by wicked laws is another, which only makes them legitimate before an apostate society, but not at all before divine law. The text relies on this recognition as if it were a place of revelation that would justify the unjustifiable.
The text continues with the sophism: “Until now, the Church did not foresee blessing couples who did not live in a sacramental marriage, for example, same-sex couples, couples married civilly after a divorce, or those who, for personal reasons, did not wish to enter into the sacrament of matrimony.”
“Did not foresee” – this is how the “episcopal advisor” interprets the absolute prohibition contained in Sacred Scripture and Tradition, and taught by the Church. But “with the Declaration Fiducia Supplicans on the Pastoral Meaning of Blessings, the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith (DDF), with the approval of Pope Francis, has opened a new path.”
