Cardinal Cupich Proclaims the Sacrament of Immigration

On October 3, 2026, Cardinal Blase Cupich spoke at an immigration rally held at Old Saint Patrick’s Church in downtown Chicago.

“I am delighted to be with you to celebrate Catholic Solidarity in this City of Welcome and reflect on our common journey of migration,” he said as he welcomed the attendees.

He then listed a bill of particulars, which are best addressed one by one:

“Last November when we [USCCB bishops] met in Baltimore, we spoke of the climate of fear and anxiety created by profiling and inhumane immigration enforcement…”

He is referring to the identification and apprehension of illegal lawbreakers. They have broken the law and are “afraid” of getting caught.

“… the vilification of immigrants…”

Our shepherds have officially banned the term “illegal.”

“The hazardous conditions in detention centers…”

I’ve done jail ministry for years. Criminals make for testy roommates.

“The lack of access to pastoral care…”

Cupich and Co. think they can march on a prison with live media coverage and demand entrance without identification and pre-clearance. Our parish volunteers are required to undergo background checks and wait for appointments to meet with residents, who in turn must grant permission before we can meet with them.

“The abrupt and arbitrary loss of legal status…”

Of course, illegal aliens by definition have no “legal status.”

“The threats against the sanctity of houses of worship and the special nature of hospitals and schools…”

For years our shepherds have supported “Sanctuary” locations nationwide, allowing criminal aliens to evade arrest and the citizens residing there.

“And the separation of children from their parents…”

Joe Biden gave “Catholic” NGOs over a billion dollars to traffic millions of illegals across the border. Many “minors” were not even “family members” of the illegal claiming them; some were borrowed, some were “rented” (for lower Cartel transit fees or in exchange for sex), and most bore no proof of their familial relationship.

To house these children in the same quarters with adult criminals whose criminal, health, and family status had not been vetted would amount to child abuse.

“We told our migrant brothers and sisters that we stand with them, and we made clear that we oppose the indiscriminate mass deportation of people…”

Immigration Law is now very carefully enforced; Biden refused to enforce it, and the USCCB cheered. Bishop Mark Seitz called Trump officials “Pharisees” and “hypocrites” for supporting strict enforcement. He staged a media circus by escorting masses of illegals across the Rio Grande bridge into El Paso.
