Understanding the Revolution That Seeks to Dethrone God

We must understand Revolution as a spiritual pathology born from the disordered passions of man and animated by the ancient serpent’s defiant cry, Non serviam! — “I will not serve.”

“Though the children of this world be wiser than the children of light, their snares and their violence would undoubtedly have less success if a great number of those who call themselves Catholics did not extend a friendly hand to them. Yes, unfortunately, there are those who seem to want to walk in agreement with our enemies and try to build an alliance between light and darkness, an accord between justice and iniquity, by means of those so-called liberal Catholic doctrines, which, based on the most pernicious principles, adulate the civil power when it invades things spiritual and urge souls to respect or at least tolerate the most iniquitous laws, as if it had not been written absolutely that no one can serve two masters. They are certainly much more dangerous and more baneful than our declared enemies, not only because they second their efforts, perhaps without realizing it, but also because, by maintaining themselves at the very edge of condemned opinions, they take on an appearance of integrity and irreprehensible doctrine, beguiling the imprudent friends of conciliations and deceiving honest persons, who would revolt against a declared error. In this way, they divide the minds, rend the unity, and weaken the forces that should be assembled against the enemy.” – Pope Pius IX’s in his encyclical Etsi Multa, issued on November 21, 1873.

“Adulterers, know you not that the friendship of this world is the enemy of God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of this world, becometh an enemy of God” – James 4:4

Less than two months ago, I published an essay examining Catholic Counter-Revolution — a broad and necessarily preliminary sketch of what this might mean for the faithful laity in our times. That earlier essay barely scratched the surface of the true nature of the Revolution that has ravaged both Church and society. In hindsight, I began at the wrong end of the problem. I started with what the faithful must do without first exposing, in sufficient depth, what exactly we are fighting against. This essay, then, is an attempt to correct that order — to plunge deeper into the anatomy of the Revolution itself, its spiritual essence, its agents, and its methods of deceit.

Why return to this subject so soon? Because the situation grows more intolerable by the day. My patience has been tested not merely by the machinations of the world — by the open enemies of Christ who declare themselves as such — but far more by the ceaseless, cowardly compromises made within the Church herself. I speak not of distant secularists, nor of the obvious enemies of the Cross, but of those who wear the vestments of authority — the cardinals, bishops, priests— and once-traditional Catholics who have bent the knee to the Revolution while still claiming the name of Christ. Their betrayal cuts far deeper than any attack from without, for it is an internal subversion, a Judas kiss repeated daily at the altars of the new, man-centered religion.

I do not write under any illusion that my words will be received by many. In truth, I often feel like one crying in the wilderness. A spiritual blindness has descended over the majority of Catholics, from the pews to the pulpit, from the diocesan chancery to the Vatican itself. The blindness is almost total. What we are witnessing — in real time and before our very eyes — is the great deception foretold by Scripture and warned of by saints. It is the separation of the sheep from the goats, the winnowing of the true remnant Church founded by Christ from the counterfeit “Ape Church” of Modernist Rome — that post-conciliar, synodal fabrication which has draped itself in the external garments of Catholicism while hollowing out its supernatural core.

Some will accuse me of exaggeration, even hysteria. Let them. But the lines of division have become too stark to deny. There now exist only two camps: those who, despite persecution and ridicule, cling to the unchanging Catholic Faith — and those who, whether through ignorance, cowardice, or deceit, have aligned themselves with the Revolution. The first group is scorned as “radical,” “extremist,” “pharisaical,” or even “schismatic.” The second includes not only the avowed enemies of Tradition but also, increasingly, those who once stood with us — the former Traditionalists who, step by step, have begun to compromise with the new religion. The veil of deception now falls over them with terrifying speed. We are witnessing the spiritual equivalent of moral and spiritual gangrene. Give it an inch, and it devours the entire soul.

It is for this reason that I write again — not merely to analyze, but to arm. This essay is intended as one more weapon in the arsenal of those who recognize the apocalyptic gravity of our times, and who, by the grace of God, refuse to surrender their purity of faith. The battle we face is not metaphorical; it is cosmic. It is nothing less than the struggle between the Mystical Body of Christ and the mystical body of the Antichrist.

To fight effectively, we must, as the old maxim commands, know thy enemy. And to know him well. For this purpose, I will once again lean heavily upon the indispensable little book Revolution and Counter-Revolution by Dr. Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira — a work whose prophetic clarity grows only more luminous with time. I make no apology for revisiting some themes from my earlier essay; the crisis demands repetition, and the truth bears repeating until it pierces the fog of deception.

I hope this essay helps those standing near the edge of the precipice to see that, by its very nature, the Revolution is not something in which one can safely dabble. One cannot be a faithful Catholic in one sphere while dancing with the Revolution in another. The Catholic who truly desires the purity of the Faith cannot wage war over liturgy, only to yield in matters of dogma and doctrine. It is all or nothing. Even the smallest concession to the Revolution leads to ruin — for just a single drop of poison in a chalice of the clearest mountain spring water brings death, does it not?
