The Pillar recently conducted an interview with Bishop Frank Dewane, Bishop of the Diocese of Venice. Here’s an example of the deception used by Dewane used throughout the interview:
- “these individuals may have violated a law, but they are not serious criminals.”
- “it is a very isolated area. If somebody were to need help out there it is going to take a great deal of time to get any medical attention.”
- “They are not all criminals, far from it. But we are treating them as common criminals at best.”
- “Think about the Gulags back in Russia, Soviet Union, they did things like this at that time.”
- “…we know of similar camps which have been in China, or in other countries.”
- “I worked and lived in the Soviet Union for a number of years…I can’t help but say to myself: With what we are doing now down in Florida… are we not somehow doing the same thing?”
Here are some responses to Dewane’s over-the-top rhetoric:
- The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) profiled some the criminal illegal aliens being sent to Alligator Alcatraz and similar facilities. The inmates include murders, rapists, kidnappers, pedophiles, arsonists and drug traffickers.
- According to DHS, ICE has higher detention standards than most U.S. prisons that hold actual U.S. citizens. All detainees are provided with proper meals, medical treatment, and have opportunities to communicate with lawyers and their family members.
- President Trump’s tour of the facility (part 1 and part 2) showed air-conditioned facilities with on-site medical treatment.
