The Catholic Bishops of Arizona released a statement yesterday indicating their commitment to stand with migrants, regardless of their immigration status. We are seeing similar talking points being reiterated by bishops throughout the United States. Here are some of the common themes along with our rebuttable:
- Bishops’talking point: Immigration is a complex issue.
Our response: Immigration has only been made more complex by Catholic agencies trafficking millions of illegal aliens across our nation. - Bishops’talking point: Our nation’s immigration system is badly broken.
Our response: Correct, Catholic agencies have helped to break the system.
Bishops frequently complain our immigration system is broken, but never say what is actually broken, nor do they provide any useful suggestions on how to fix it. So – they just circumvent the system because their claim that it is broken justifies the workaround.
- Bishops’talking point: Ministering to those arriving at our borders is an essential part of our deeply held religious beliefs.
Our response: Ministering to preborn babies in danger of being aborted is also part of our deeply held religious beliefs. The difference is bishops can’t get government grants to defend preborn babies. If ministering to migrants in need was a top priority, Catholic agencies would have done so without being paid billions of dollars in taxpayer-funded federal grants. - Bishops’talking point: We only provide humanitarian aid to legally processed refugees and asylum seekers brought to us by government officials.
Our response: Bishops turned a blind eye towards Biden’s unjust use of parole authority to flood the country with millions of migrants who, under normal legal standards, would not qualify for asylum.
Do not be deceived by the bishops’ talking points. We believe these points are being used to deflect attention away from their own complicity in the immigration crisis now facing our nation.
