Americans Aren’t Fooled by Joe Biden’s Claim he is a “Devout Catholic,” but Bishops Certainly Seem to Be

According to a recent poll conducted by Pew Research:

A significant portion of the American population remains unconvinced by Biden’s portrayal of himself as a devout Catholic. n late February, the survey revealed that only 13% of Americans view Biden as “very religious,” while 41% perceive him as “somewhat religious.” Meanwhile, a substantial 44% of respondents categorized him as “not at all” or “not too religious.”

These findings stand in stark contrast to Biden’s own characterization of himself as a committed Catholic who regularly attends church services. The White House has also used the term “devout Catholic” to defend Biden’s radical pro-abortion views.

What is clear to most Americans appears to be unclear to U.S. bishops. Canon 915 dictates that those who “obstinately persisting in manifesting grave sin” MUST be denied access to Holy Communion.  A pastor or bishop who allows supporters of abortion/infanticide to receive Communion is demonstrating to the whole Church that this is not sinful. He is also announcing to the whole Church that he is untroubled by the prospect of living, himself, habitually in the state of mortal sin.

But U.S. bishops have been avoiding the issue for years, most recently in 2021 when they failed to make a pronouncement regarding President Biden. We also learned that San Antonio Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller was happy to provide Biden with Holy Communion when he visited the border last month.
