Bishop Stowe Bans Ad Orientem Worship

Lexington Bishop John Stowe “forbids” all ad orientem worship in his diocese as well as the use of biretta and maniple.

His decree which takes effect on Ash Wednesday was published by Rich Raho on (February 3).

For Stowe, the proper way of receiving Communion kneeling at the communion rail is an “unauthorised adaptation on the posture for receiving Communion.” Having received his “formation” at the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University, he likely doesn’t know better.

The little dictator also “allows” only one Fraternity of St Peter priest to celebrate the Roman Mass only in St Francis de Sales Church. He closed a second location at St Peter’s. No other priest is “allowed” to celebrate Mass, Stowe believes.
