Delaware Priest Smuggled Child Porn, Including ‘Torture’ Images, Into The U.S., Feds Say

A former Catholic priest at DeSales University has been indicted on federal charges that he smuggled child pornography, including some images investigators characterized as “torture” porn, into the U.S. from overseas.

U.S. Attorney William McSwain announced Thursday that the charges were filed against William McCandless, 56, of Wilmington, Del., in federal Eastern District Court in Philadelphia.

McCandless, a member of the order of Oblates of St. Frances DeSales, is accused of accessing the child porn and amassing thousands of images while working overseas in the tiny European nation of Monaco from 2010 until January 2017, when he returned to the U.S.
