Survey Reveals Many Church Employees Oppose Catholic Doctrine

A vast survey of the Roman Catholic Church workforce in America shows Church employees are split on issues facing today’s Church and a significant number appear to support positions that are contrary to Catholic doctrine. NBC Owned Television stations around the nation distributed the survey to more than 32,000 employees listed in the Official Catholic Directory. 2,700 members of the church workforce responded (see methodology here), including nearly 500 priests and deacons, more than 280 religious sisters and brothers, along with nearly 1,900 lay employees – everyone from educators to administrative staff. On matters of prudential judgement where reasonable Catholics can disagree (such as immigration and the environment), a majority of employees sided with Pope Francis in his liberal positions on these issues.
